Italy Day 11 - Florence Cooking Class
Wednesday, May 24th, 2006
Today I discovered Italian breakfast pastries. I can’t believe I’ve been wasting my mornings on complimentary hotel croissants. So, to make up for lost time, I’m having 2 pastries a day from here on out. (Waistline be damned!)
Italy Day 10 - Rome
Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006
I think I burned out on photos yesterday, because there are hardly any shots from today. Or, maybe it’s that Rome is much less interesting on weekdays when all of the Romans are at work. The only people who are out are the tourists.
My train back to Florence wasn’t till 6pm, so I had a lot of time to kill today. I walked all over the place. In flip flops. Which I don’t recommend, because my feet were friggin killing me.
Italy Day 9 - Rome
Monday, May 22nd, 2006
There’s a crazy guy in Rome who sits on the steps of the church, holds his knees and rocks back and forth, frantically repeating the same phrase in this raspy sing-song. I wish I knew what he was saying. Probably something like “the end is near.” But I wouldn’t be completely shocked by “Your call is important to us. Please stay on the line.”
Italy Day 8 - Rome
Sunday, May 21st, 2006Italy Day 7 - Cinque Terre, Forte Dei Marmi and Florence
Saturday, May 20th, 2006Beppe picked us up at 8:30 this morning to take us to Cinque Terre.
I was really excited for today. Everyone said that I HAVE to see Cinque Terre because it’s absolutely gorgeous. Turns out that’s a huge understatement. (Hence the 8 million photos in this post.)
Italy Day 6 - Florence, Pisa, Lucca and Prato
Friday, May 19th, 2006Italy Day 5 - Florence
Thursday, May 18th, 2006Today, we walked around and saw most of the mandatory Florence sights. Started with the Duomo, which is really amazing. The building is made from white and green marble. And every inch of wall has some sort of intricate statue or flourish carved into it. The Duomo is probably the most impressive building I’ve seen. (No offense, Bagby building)
Italy Day 4 - Verona, Parma and Florence
Wednesday, May 17th, 2006We met our driver, Beppe, at the Plaza della Roma at 8:30 to hit the road for Florence.
Italy Day 3 - Venice and Burano
Tuesday, May 16th, 2006In the morning, we went back to St. Mark’s Square (on purpose this time) to get some pictures in the daylight. That’s when I got attacked by pigeons.
