Walk a mile in my underpants

Sorry for the delay. Here’s the dirt on Canton’s new Jasa Kabob from last week.

I brought the Styrofoam container home and opened it up to discover golf-ball-sized chunks of marinated lamb and chicken, a side salad, basmati rice topped with spicy chickpeas, two containers of an herby yogurt sauce and a large round of naan bread. The lamb was as perfectly cooked as any you’ll find.

The chicken was spicy, juicy and perfect. The naan was soft and not-at-all greasy like some I’ve tried. I’ll definitely be going back to try the chicken tikka.

Mother’s in Federal Hill now serves a deep-fried, cheese stuffed hamburger.

I didn’t see the scooter coming when I stepped off the curb last night, although, I admit I wasn’t really paying attention.

It was at the corner of 14th and University Place in Union Square.

I was running late for dinner.

I didn’t see any cars coming, so I stepped into the street.

As I crossed into traffic, I looked down at my phone to check the time.

Just then, the oncoming scooter beeped at me.

I stopped in my tracks and looked up just in time to see the man on the Vespa zoom past.

It was Mario Batali.

Last month I turned 30. It was awful. A major midlife crisis. I was just about to grow a ponytail, drop all of my savings on a cherry red convertible and move to Las Vegas to pursue a career as an Elvis impersonator.

But fortunately a very special someone helped cushion the blow of the big three-oh with a very, very special birthday surprise. (more…)

Last July while in San Diego for work, I had the privlidge to eat at a restaurant called El Bizcocho. The chef, Gavin Kaysen, had just been named to the list of 2007’s Best New Chefs by Food and Wine magazine. I’ve been talking about the meal ever since. (more…)
